Principal’s Message
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Portland caters for children from Kindergarten to Year Six and is the only small Catholic primary school at the eastern end of the Bathurst Diocese. Founded by the Sisters of St Joseph, the charism of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop continues to permeate the school. Being the face of the Catholic Church in the township of Portland, strong partnerships exist between parish and school and weekly Mass forms an important part of the school routine.
Unique features of the school include its size, the positive attitude of all towards learning and the development of faith, resilience, responsibility, tolerance and self confidence. The interaction of the children is of utmost importance and effective strategies are put in place to develop mutual respect and a sense of fair play. St Joseph’s has a generous-sized playground overlooking historical views of ‘The Foundations’ site in Portland.
The dedicated and highly professional staff share a strong commitment to educating the whole child and the provision of an inclusive learning environment for all is key to our mission. With a strong focus on student engagement and differentiation, we are committed to equipping our students with the fundamental skills and capabilities required to become successful lifelong learners.
